A research study was recently conducted which concluded that women’s fascination with chocolate begins in the womb.

It’s a well-known fact – the majority of women adore chocolate. But when they start that love affair with chocolate may surprise you.

A fascinating research study was recently conducted. And the lead author Andrea Tranquilli, from a university in Italy concluded that women’s fascination with chocolate begins in the womb.

The researchers tested 100 pregnant ladies who were in their third trimester and hadn’t tasted any chocolate in three months. As part of the study, the females were allowed to eat five pieces of Italian dark chocolate.

Once fully consumed, the heartbeats of the fetuses were measured along with their movements. 46 babies were male while the rest were girls.

Both genders physically responded to the treat derived from 80% cocoa. However the females were more active and their heart rates contained more episodic accelerations.

The researchers believe the receptors in women’s brains play a role in the predisposed liking to chocolate, responding differently to the flavor and compounds in the treat.
