Violence continues in Turkey as the nation grapples with its worst anti-government unrest for years.

In the coastal town of Izmir, thousands of protesters fought with police for a second day on Saturday (June 1).

This was one of more than 90 separate demonstrations to spring up nationwide in anger against the government.

Almost a thousand arrests have been made and scores left injured.

Police have been accused of using excessive force in some areas, triggering rebukes from the U.S. and European Union.

The Turkish prime minister says the claims will be investigated and has called for the protests to end.
