Oklahoma pets are transferred to a no-kill shelter in Chicago.
The devastation left behind from a mile-wide tornado that recently tore through Oklahoma is indescribable.
One issue is the many displaced and injured pets.
PAWS Chicago Animal Shelter has stepped in to assist. More than 300 volunteers from the organization have taken 75 dogs and cats to a no-kill shelter in the city. The animals were at risk of being euthanized in their home state.
Workers at the Oklahoma City Animal Care and Control Center have been completely swamped with the over 150 pets which were brought into the center following the natural disaster.
By freeing up space at the Oklahoma City shelter, PAWS is saving many feline and canine lives. The volunteers drove about 850 miles to help. They spent several hours loading up the creatures to take them back to Illinois.
Now, those animals just need a loving home and surely, many families would be interesting in adopting given their stories.
The executive director of PAWS Chicago speaks of the kind act by stating “It's brought a smile to everyone's face.”
