An impossibly important coffee pot is up for auction.

What does your coffee pot look like?

A truly exceptional 18th century silver coffee pot is going to be auctioned. At an estimated selling price of 6 million dollars, it is projected to be the most valuable piece of British silver ever made available at auction.

It doesn’t foam, grind, or have the ability to be programmed, but it doesn’t have to. Somewhere between its dazzling form and simplistic function, are the success stories of French Protestant Huguenot’s in England.

While being a Rococo masterpiece by legendary craftsman Paul de Lamerie adds to its importance as an object, its significance as an historical artifact comes more so from the man who commissioned it, Sir John Lequesne.

He moved from Rouen to London as a boy after his father was imprisoned for following Protestant beliefs.

An orphan, Lequesne went on to achieve such great success as a businessman, he was named the director of the Bank of England and was knighted by King George II. It was his amazing wealth and credentials that made the commissioning of such a fabulous piece possible.
