Rescue crews are searching the Skagit River in Washington state after a bridge collapsed sending people and cars into the water below.
Officials say a portion of the four lane freeway collapsed around 7 pm local time.
The cause of the collapse is not immediately known, although local media say one witness said an oversized truck hit the bridge prior to the collapse.
Transportation officials told local media that the bridge is fairly old but that it had been inspected fairly recently.
