A monkey killer received a court sentence.
It’s difficult to believe someone could ever harm a rare and beautiful creature. A man in Idaho recently received his court sentence for the killing of a Patas monkey at Zoo Boise.
Employees at the facility found the animal, named Cratey dead late last year while investigating a break in. Michael J. Watkins illegally entered the zoo and freed the money from its enclosure. He reportedly tried to steal Cratey, but instead got bit.
Evidently enraged, Watkins went on attack mode. He chased, kicked, beat the animal with a stick and sprayed it with a fire extinguisher. He continued the assault even after it stopped moving.
For the charge of attempted grand theft, Watkins may be eligible for release after completing a nine- to 12-month treatment program.
In another stomach churning report from 2008, a 7-year-old boy was caught on surveillance footage brutally killing 13 animals in an Australian zoo.
Court authorities could not bring charges aginst the child due to his age.
