Bus drivers are named the most obese workers.
A recent survey conducted by Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index revealed the professions that have the most obese workers.
Bus drivers and general transportation operators came in at the top of the list, with a 36-percent obesity rate. Those who spent their forty hours in the manufacturing and production industry landed the next spot.
The research project involved speaking with nearly 140,000 American employees last year. Overall, 14 occupations were examined.
A transport union director explains the weight link stating “The stress of the jobs results from high demand and low control over the work. Traffic, people and schedule are all big items that are beyond your control as a driver. As a result of the stress, many are inclined to mal-adaptive coping mechanism.”
The availability of fast food and lack of movement also contribute to the higher obesity numbers for bus operators.
Last year, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released its findings from a telephone survey carried out in 2011, which asked 400,000 Americans to enter their weight and height. The results were shocking. Not one state in the entire country had obesity rates of less than 20%.
